Starving Science: A Shortsighted National Strategy

The US Geological Survey is about to shut down one of its oldest units and mothball its collection of over 1 million animal specimens, currently housed in the Smithsonian. Shutting the Biological Survey Unit will save an insignificant amount of money, but the loss to science will be permanent.
