T-Mobile is buying TV streaming startup Layer3 TV to launch its own online pay-TV subscription service in 2018 in order to challenge traditional cable TV providers and Internet-based TV streaming services including Sling TV, YouTube TV, PlayStation Vue, Hulu TV Live and Direct TV Now.
