Waiting for HAMR introductions has slowed the growth in HDD capacity to less than 10%. WD has made a brave but sensible move to using microwaves rather than heat to create higher capacity HDDs to hold the world’s data. 40 TB HDDs by 2022 may be possible with MAMR using conventional manufacturing.
