Venice, the aquatic metropolis along the Adriatic Sea, is the star of Italy’s tourism show, according to some visitors who are star-struck by its canals, cathedrals, architecture and artwork. Venice, with its narrow cobblestone passageways and piazzas, appears to be a village made of cake frosting.
