The Saudi and Emirati attack on Qatar has backfired badly. Despite Donald Trump's tweets, the U.S. has effectively backed Doha and pressed for a negotiated settlement. Riyadh and Dubai have come under increased Western scrutiny and now are trapped, unable to either escalate or back down.
