One of Lincoln’s earliest speeches-the "Lyceum Address"-deserves our attention. It is an example of speechwriting at its finest, and a permanent reminder to guard against that class of men—birthed from the “family of the lion, or tribe of the eagle”—who menace even the most stable of republics.
